How do you start reading English books?
Well, there are books at the American Corner for every level!
Beginners can find Easy Readers and Picture Books on the shelves...look for red buckets:
Intermediate and Advanced readers can find good fiction and non-fiction books on the shelves.
Like mysteries? Try reading Nancy Drew...
Like science and biology? Try reading World of Animals series...
Magazines and newspapers also count! You can read an article and summarize the article. Just put number of pages of the article your Report Form. We have many newspapers and magazines at the Corner.
Finally, you can also write a summary of a movie. Check out our DVD collection:
Remember!
-Dont try to read every word. Focus on the main idea. Only use your dictionary when you really have to.
-Choose a good location to read. You should be comfortable and not stressed.
-Look up some background information on the author or book to get a good idea of context.
-Don't pick something too difficult.
-Pick something fun and interesting to you!
